COAST TO COAST - NORTH ROUTE
Your riding ability
On our long distance rides we will be travelling many miles a day in the saddle, riding up and down hills and over rough terrain so you must be capable of riding in a balanced manner for your horses sake! Our horses health and happiness is always a priority to us and because of the long days in the saddle, we require all riders to be competent in riding with a light seat (i.e posting the trot and light seat in canter) to minimise stress on the horses back. We will be crossing rivers, galloping along beaches and may need to jump small natural obstacles, like ditches or fallen trees - nothing too big, but you need to be a capable rider and able to control a horse at speed. It is also important that you are practised in leading a horse over difficult terrain as there may be times when this is necessary. We require all our riders to be at a walk/trot/canter level.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer a pick up or transfer service?
Sometimes we can pick riders up from their accomodation in Aboyne if they don't have their own transportation or if they are arriving on public transport. Please email us to arrange beforehand.

Do you have a weight or height limit?
Yes, our weight limit is 15st which is 95kg or 210lbs. We do not have a height limit.

Do you offer accomodation?
We can offer accomodation at the yard for riders who are joining us for a 2-4 day short break. You can find more information about our Short Break itineraries here.

Do you offer self-guided rides?
Due to the ever changing weather as well as difficult terrain and specific agreements with the landowners, we do not offer self guided ride itineraries.

Can my dog join me on my ride?
For the safety of our horses, other riders in the group and your dog, we do not allow riders to bring their dog on the ride. We also often ride through fields with loose sheep with lambs.

Can I bring my own horse?
We run a closed herd which means we do not allow our horses to come into contact with horses outside their herd. This helps to minimise biosecurity issues as well as potential injuries. Our horses are trained to be able to handle every eventuality that we might meet on the trail, from loose sheep, cows and tractors to rocky terrain, river crossings and rough footing.

Can I park my camper van at the yard?
Sadly we do not have anywhere suitable for camper van parking. There is a campsite and caravan park in Aboyne which we are happy to provide you with more information about.

What if I need to cancel my booking?
If you are cancelling your ride more than a week in advance, we will refund 50% of your payment. If you are cancelling your ride less than a week in advance, sadly we will not be able to refund you.

What do I need to bring with me on my ride?
If you are joining us for a ride of 1 - 3 hours, please wear enclosed shoes and long trousers. We recommend riders bring a waterproof jacket, a warm layer and gloves. If you are joining us for a day ride, then please bring a warm layer, waterproof jacket/trousers, a water bottle and your lunch.

Do your hire helmets/riding boots?
We do have a selection of helmets available for riders to borrow. We sadly don't offer riding boots at this time.
Do you offer private rides?
We can arrange private day rides and hacks for extra cost. Please email us to find out more information on pricing and availability.
