COAST TO COAST - NORTH ROUTE
Your riding ability
On our long distance rides we will be travelling many miles a day in the saddle, riding up and down hills and over rough terrain so you must be capable of riding in a balanced manner for your horses sake! Our horses health and happiness is always a priority to us and because of the long days in the saddle, we require all riders to be competent in riding with a light seat (i.e posting the trot and light seat in canter) to minimise stress on the horses back. We will be crossing rivers, galloping along beaches and may need to jump small natural obstacles, like ditches or fallen trees - nothing too big, but you need to be a capable rider and able to control a horse at speed. It is also important that you are practised in leading a horse over difficult terrain as there may be times when this is necessary. We require all our riders to be at a walk/trot/canter level.

Four Day Ride, South Side
We collect all riders in Inverness before heading 10 minutes outside Inverness to meet our ponies. We will have a quick ride briefing before heading out. We follow a newly created trail that climbs high into the forrest above Loch Ness with stunning views all around. We climbg high up following the Fair Haired Lads Pass with views of the Monadliath mountains. Keep an eye out for red squirrels as we drop down over the pass and into the forest as we make our way to Whitebridge where we stay in a local hotel for the night.

Day Two
Whitebridge to Fort Augustus: 12 miles
Leaving Whitebridge, we rejoin the trail following minor roads and tacks through forestry and across rivers. The view up there down the Great Glen is stunning! We descend to the village of Fort Augustus beside the Caledonian Canal, where we spend the night.

Day Three
Fort Augustus to Spean Bridge: 21 miles
We ride from our accomodation into the forest before joining an old General Wade road/drove road beside the beautiful Loch Oich. We spend most of the day on good forest tracks following Loch Lochy, with stunning views over to the Grey Corries and Ben Nevis. We spend the night at Spean Bridge.
Day Four
Spean Bridge loop: 14 miles
Today's route is weather dependant, if the water levels in the river are low, we ride into the village of Spean Bridge and then into the forest at Leanachan. More lovely views before crossing the river at Torlundy. If the river is too high to cross, we will ride beside the Caledonian canal, crossing through the tunnels beneath the canal to ride in the forest. We finish both routes by riding beside the Calendonian Canal.

After the ride, we will take you into Fort William, where there are good bus links back to Inverness or rail links onwards to Glasgow.

Price: 1190 GBP
You will need to get to Inverness for the start of this ride and it finishes at Fort William. After the ride, you can be transported to the town, from where you can return easily to Inverness by bus, or arrange onward transportation from Fort William bus or train to anywhere else in the UK. Inverness also has an airport.
Five Day Ride, South Side
This ride leaves from Inverness and we ride along the Southern side of the glen, on the 'Seven Lochs trail, through the forests overlooking the Great Glen. We stop for the night at Dores at the head of Loch Ness. From Dores, we climb over the Fair Headed Lads pass for stunning views over Loch Ness to the hills far to the North. We finish for the night at Whitebridge. The next day, we take minor roads and tracks with stunning views over the Glen from the Suidhe Chuimein viewpoint before descending to Fort Augustus. Our ride carries on to Auchterawe where we spend the night. Day 3 sees us riding from Fort Augustus to Invergarry on old hill tracks and through the forest. The following day, we follow the GGW trail past Loch Oich and Loch Lochy to Gairlochy, spending the night in Spean Bridge. The final day - We ride through Leanachan forest, below the Aonoch More Ski Slopes to Fort William, a bustling city beneath Ben Nevis (the highest mountain in the UK) where we will cross the river to finish beside Neptunes Staircase. If the river is high, we ride beside the Caledonian Canal, then through the forest at Glen Loy before rejoining the canal to finish beside Neptunes Staircase.
